LiamL
Hi there, We have an entire theatre kit we want to sell, everything from the wired bar, lights, every nut and bolt etc to the retractable seating and it all works. Would like it to go to someone that wants a really good deal and couldn't afford to buy from new to start off, maybe a community theatre or a school. Where would I even start to look for these groups. We could split it up and sell individual items and probably do all right but it would be a shame because it is a complete lot. Thanks Liam
alistermorton
I wonder if it's worth an advert (or maybe a feature) in Sardines?
Paul O
You may be better off splitting it up into separate lots, you're more likely to find a buyer who needs retractable seating and another buyer who wants a lighting rig rather than someone who wants both. adam2
I agree, most venues that need say lighting equipment, would already have seating. A venue that needs sound stuff might already have lighting, and so on. There are companies that would offer to buy the lot, but only with view to selling it as disparate lots either via fleabay or a physical auction room. LiamL
Thanks for the info, really cool. yeah splitting it up we know we can sell everything, the utopia of getting someone started or leg up could well be just a good hearted idea! Ynot
Thanks for the info, really cool. yeah splitting it up we know we can sell everything, the utopia of getting someone started or leg up could well be just a good hearted idea! It's highly unlikely that you'll find any group 'just starting up' that will need everything on your list - and to be honest, probably not many, if any, who'd want to/be able to buy a whole 'set' of anything. Start-ups will do it small and then work up to bigger things as and when they can afford. Depending on what kit you have you MAY find a group who might be able to upgrade, but even then it'll be a thin market slice. Selling bits & bobs individually or in small groups is most likely to be your best bet.
Stuart91
I agree with what others have said. It's very rare to have a group who are needing everything from scratch but have the funding and experience to make a purchase like this. Plus the raked seating will only be suitable for certain kinds of venue so that narrows the potential market down even further. My hunch is that it'd be best to split the kit into logical segments. Probably batches of four or six lanterns rather than individuals, maybe lot all the dimmers together. Less hassle for all concerned and means people can buy a sensible collection. What's the situation with the kit at the moment? Do you need to get it clear of the space fast? Is there a certain value you need to realise for the kit, or is it just a case of trying to keep useful stuff out of a skip? I've come across some situations where there have been school buildings closing down, and for complicated reasons, they weren't allowed to carry anything over to the new building. On one occasion, we did a deal to strip out what we could, some of which we kept but quite a bit got resold. Another time, a school was being demolished to make way for a new bypass. The local auctioneers sold everything in the theatre off. Since they specialised in selling livestock, they probably didn't get the best value for the kit. Certainly I was very pleased with the prices I paid. One last thing - moving a retractible seating bank is going to be quite a task. Make sure any buyers know what they are letting themselves in for!
