Long time watcher and first time poster so go easy on me http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/huh.gif

Love this effect cedd, one of the best Ive seen and something I would love to recreate to a similar level in the future. One question I do have however is what e-cigarette did you use as I have never even held one to know if they are all of a similar construction or if they vary greatly? Hoping to try something on a smaller scale for a Halloween prop if I get time.

Many thanks.

Thanks cedd, Ive ordered a pack of those from Amazon as they were a similar price but much shorter deliver.

One other quick question that I see has been touched on above - can I use fog juice in the atomiser for this purpose?

Standard smoke machine juice has a very low glycol to water ratio in the region of around 25%. It doesn't work well in a vaping device that requires a liquid often based on just glycerin with propylene glycol to get the right viscosity, and uses the natural moisture in the liquid for the atomising effect.

I've been testing using Seuthe fluid designed for model railways. It wasn't through choice, it was what I had at the time. I think in my head it made sense though being a similarly small device. It's a nice smoke but tends to look quite stringy. It clings to things as if it was a thick liquid for a few seconds before dispersing. I actually quite like it and it looks great in this setting.

It does indeed! That's the fluid in use in the video. I'm going to do a bit of experimenting with other fluids as I'd always assumed model railway smoke fluid was just the same as theatrical fluid. After a bit more research it turns out they're not the same beast (as you point out) but it definitely does work.

The beauty of the method being used to connect to the vape pens here is that they can easily swap out, so I can try multiple mixtures without having to flush out any tanks or risk doing any damage - the atomisers are pence each. A lot of the model railway folk are suggesting mineral oil, but I'd prefer to move towards more common theatrical fluids as there's often loads kicking around and its' use is more widely accepted, especially when considering health concerns from inhaling it!

The two most common ingredients in vape liquid are glycerine and propylene glycol. The big cloud-chaser tanks can use near pure glycerine, but the Ego tanks you're using need runnier fluid which is probably a 50/50 mix of the two.

Or you could use a cheap e-liquid like the stuff that Poundland sells. The nicotine isn't going to be an issue if people aren't sucking the output of the genie lamp.

Most convenient source for glycerine is Boots the chemist. You can buy propylene glycol online as it's very popular with people who mix their own liquids.

Wow, that looks amazing, actually! It is fantastic because it is both exciting and very simple to be done.

Hi Rose, welcome to Blue Room.

Just in case you didn't realise, you are replying to a thread that is almost 3 years old. That's not a problem, and I think everyone in this discussion is still a frequent contributor to the forum, but it is always worth checking the dates.
