Strand Quartet lens.

Going to be trying the usual suspects to see if anyone has any back stock of these, but just in case anyone out there has one tucked away or maybe a defunct lantern with a good lens in I am in the market.

Just in the midst of annual clean, check, repair & test routines & pulled one out that's broken clean in 2...

Do you mean fresnel or profile?

If profile (and apologies if you are already well aware!), in the Mk1 there was a 22/40 variable, a 15/25 variable, and a fixed (maybe 25 degree?). The profile was also revised in a Mk2 - I think the fixed angles were dropped to be left with the two variable angle versions. But basically there are a range of lens options, so you'll need to be specific in your searches and ordering.

Lightspares claim to carry them at €60 plus carriage.

Cheers for that.

The little bent paper clip type lens clip priced at ELEVEN EUROS...! that's rather steep for a bit of stiffened wire. Glad I didn't lose that when the lens came out!

I haven't checked but it's possible the Quartet fresnel lens is the same as the Prelude lens which might widen the sourcing options. I have both Quartet F and Prelude F so will try to remember to make some measurements/compare shape/thickness and report back.

I have a feeling you're right, Kevin. Same diameter certainly, and the beam angle range is (to all intents and purposes) the same.

I actually thought the same thing earlier today as we moved on to the Prelude stock, but other than a quick physical comparison of the broken lens in front of the Prel F I forgot to check it properly....

Plenty of time to check though before we re-open :)

But a quick Google actually led me to this topic from 6 years back confirming the identicality :o

Oh that's good. I did do an in-lantern comparison last night. They certainly measure the same diameter (120mm) and thickness. If anything maybe the Quartet lens seemed slightly more 'indented' on the lamp side (are the Quartet and Prelude beam angle ranges the same?) but that might be just in my mind! They were textured a bit differently on the lamp side but then it was quite an early model Prelude and I guess they could have different manufacturers or revised the mould slightly.

But close enough that if you can find a Prelude worth a try. However I've never really been successful removing lenses from either type of lantern so maybe there is a 'nack' to doing it!

Let us know how you get on!

Never changed a Prelude yet, but the sprung clip on the Quartet is a bit of a fiddle to get out (that one that's £11!!).But I guess it's just a knack of squeezing the right bit in the right way.
