  1. The Anytronics Anyscene is a good basic unit if you just need simple preset playback of static scenes. It is programmed by snapshotting from another DMX source, so it could do moving lights, but obviously the transitions between scenes might be a bit odd as it will just cross fade the DMX channels. Also if the up/down buttons are used, then you will get strange results from the moving lights. Artistic Licence also do a similar product, but with more scenes: https://artisticlicence.com/product/light-switch/
  2. I am looking for a rack based DMX controller to run 2x moving heads and 12x LED pars in an event space. It will be controlled via Crestron, that triggers a handfull of scenes via network UDP or similar. Also needs to have a DMX input, to be able to take control with a lighting desk to run larger events. Ideally it will detect a DMX signal and automatically override the scenes. I am having trouble working out which units meet this requirement. Budget around £800. Currently looking at the following products: Visual Productions CueCore2 CueServer 2 mini Enttec S-Play Nicolaudie Dina-DR2-Lite Does anyone have experience with these units?
  3. When Sadler's Wells was rebuilt in late 90's, they had a group of a dozen or so people with different disabilities to consult over the design period. There are still areas, such as the grid that are not accessible to wheelchairs, but most technical areas are. I think it's a requirement these days that buildings are designed to be fully accessible.
  4. Many TV studios use it as their generic house desk. So still many in use out there.
  5. As others have said, 2 cameras is best. One colour and one IR. Make sure you get a CCTV camera that has adjustments for exposure, so you can get a good exposure under stage lights. Remember that IR focuses at a different distance, so you need to manually focus the IR camera in the dark. It will look out of focus with lights on. Also bear in mind that if you have IR radiators for assisted listening, then these can cause flare in the IR camera, making the IR camera useless. So careful placement may be needed for both camera and IR radiators, to avoid issues.
  6. I'm not familiar with the "G-series", but with the Makita 18V LXT batteries, if the built in battery management circuit detects a fault with the pack and you try to charge it about 3 times on the charger, then it bricks the built in circuit board. Even if you manage to replace the cells, then the battery management board will still not let you charge, so you need to replace this too. So it's usually not worth repairing these batteries. Even if you do, then you are likely going to want to replace all the cells. You also need a spot welder to make the battery connections.
  7. White braided sleeving over standard black 19core might be an option. Unsure how much the black would show through the white though. Grey YY cable in white braided sleeving is probably safer. https://www.canford.co.uk/Products/20572/35-702_TECHFLEX-EXPANDABLE-BRAIDED-SLEEVING-Size-19-White

    ECS Cards

I can't see that listed on the ECS site. Got a link? They still have this card in the list: https://www.ecscard.org.uk/getmedia/fd616773-15bd-4802-86c0-af34b22756fd/Related-Discipline-Cards.pdf This link is from the “Related Disciplines” page under the “download our guidance” link

    ECS Cards

I have the "Lighting and Sound Engineer" ECS card. It's a "Related Disciplines" card. Requirements are a basic H&S multiple choice test. It has a few electrical specific questions, but easy enough to pass with no prep. I think the only other requirement was a job description. Most of the other cards require job specific training and evidence. Card lasts 3 years and cost about £45 for test, plus £30 for the card. When I have taken the test, the scary thing is there were people that didn't pass the test. I'm not sure how people survive every day life if they can't get through this basic test! Sadly these cards are a requirement for working on all UK building sites. They will ask for a "CSCS" card, which an ECS also carries the CSCS logo. You can also get a CSCS card which last for 5 years, but would likely end up with a green "Labourers" card. To get this you need to do a 2 day H&S course, plus multiple choice test. Other cards require this plus further training. I can see the need for this sort of scheme in the building trade, but it's a badly run and overcomplicated scheme, especially CSCS where there are far too many card types. However the assessment and route to getting electrician ECS "Gold Card" status is a reasonable scheme, and any "Gold Card" holders are very likely to be competent electricians.
  10. As the title suggests, I'm looking for ideas and suggestions for a vision mixer / presentation switcher for medium size corporate events in ballrooms. Probably something between the Barco E2 and the BlackMagic ATEM Television Studio Pro. Yes, I know that's quite a big range! Budget around £15k, but may split this and get an ATEM plus a larger switcher to allow for independent mixing of web streams. Idealy something with both SDI and HDMI inputs and outputs. 4K would be preferable, although not required at present. Currently looking at Analog Way options, but wondered what else was out there.
  11. Mounting from unistrut. 1.5m studding drop to K&M 19695-300-55 ball joint. Long lengths of 3.8th BSW threaded bar don't seem very available. Hence the M10 studding that we already have stock of.
  12. Many thanks for all the suggestions. Lot's of options. The M10 to 5/8" and 5/8" to 3/8" adaptors, looks to be the best option for us (certainly the cheapest). I'm also mounting some IR radiators with a ball head and these only have 3/8" I was just surprised not to find a one piece off the shelf solution.
  13. I am trying to find an adaptor to hang mic clips and antennas etc, from M10 studding. Basically what I want is one of THESE, but the other way round. ie. Male 3/9" BSW to Female M10. I seem to be failing to find anything online.

    Headphone choice

I've had a pair of Sony MDR-7506 for years, and find them excellent. Canford currently have an offer on for £78 (inc vat)
  15. I assume Ben is still selling these. https://dmxprojects.com/projects_dmx_analogue.html I bought one many years ago to drive a 6ch dimmer pack. You just need to put it in a box and add an 8pin plug.
