Welcome to BR Alan. It would help if you filled in your profile a bit more. Knowing your age and employment status would help to reduce superfluous info. You say you have "done" two stages but in what capacity? You have "a bit" of experience of climbing but is that Work at Height or sport climbing? You can operate a forklift and so can I but my tickets have all expired so "they" won't let me.

Mostly though if you go to the little white box on the top right of the page below your name and type in "Rigging Training" or "Rigging Qualifications" there are dozens of topics on this very subject down the years. There is a huge amount of info in past posts that may not directly answer your query but will prove a goldmine of information as you progress.

You seem to have started on stage building reasonably well but doing some scaffolding work can help. PASMA and IPAF tickets are as useful as forks and telehandler tickets but for my money getting regular work with local crew companies is the best initial entry point. Good luck.

Kerry good tip on the search; but the forum search is knackered.

Would suggest the OP goes to google; types in “rigging training” or whatever search terms they wish to use; and then add this afterwards:

site:blue-room.org.uk

That will force a search of the forum from day one.

I've just read the foreword to the Chris Higgs book mentioned by Stuart91 which is pretty specific to the indoors entertainment industry. Any advice for the outdoor rigging industry and available literature?

He's written a few. I've read the introduction to rigging, but I note has a couple of others now:

Best advice is to start in the warehouse of one of the big companies and once you feel you have become invaluable and known, go freelance, only to go back to work at a large rigging company's desk when you get older when lifting kit doesn't float your boat any more. Happened to the best of us.
