EW100 G2 Receiver died - repairable ?

Hi,

Doing a show tonight, powered up the mic rack and one of the Sennheiser EW 100 G2 receivers failed to power up properly. The backlight on the display was flickering rapidly and no other display info. Needless to say it didn't output any audio either. Pressing the on/off button made no difference. I tried it with another known working power supply, same result.

Has anyone seen one of these die in this way and succesfully repaired it or had it repaired by Sennheiser ? If so do you know what the fault was ?

When the show comes out on Sunday I'll unrack it and take a peek inside but am hoping someone might have some insight into what I'll find.

Cheers,

John

I opened up the receiver to take a looksie and basically there is just 3 PCB's inside - a main board, and RF board and the display board.

I could see no obvious signs of component failure on any of the boards so figured it would likely need either a main board or possibly RF board. I was shocked to find the price for either board as a spare part was over £100 each ! :D

So it's gone back to Sennheiser for fixed price repair for £65+vat, since that is obviously cheaper.

Cheers,

John

I blew up my G1 EW100 some years back <_< I ordered a board from Senn' and minutes after it arrived back up and working, I have an electronics background so fitting it myself was simple.

Definately respect to Sennheiser for a) Willing to sell to an end user, b) Fast shipping, c) Realistic price for the part (expensive but not out this world), d) Sending the correct part 1st time :P

Hello,I know this question was long back answered. But I have the same very problem with an old Sennheiser EW 100 G2 receiver, failing to power up properly. The backlight on the display is flickering rapidly and no other display info. Since Sennheiser technical service is not reparing G2 receivers any more any clue on the failure to be able to repair it for myself would be welcome. Thanks Regards

To be honest, unless it's something obvious and easy to fix for someone competent with a soldering iron, such as a dry joint, then it's probably better to just look for a secondhand receiver.

Have you tried a known working power supply on the off chance it's that rather than the actual receiver?
