  1. No different to the preferred method at the time with the VL Series 200 and 300 fixtures if run from an Artisan or Virtuoso. They weren't talking DMX either. In the early to mid 90's it wasn't unheard of to have an Artisan Plus (plus hernia!) driving VL's, and Icon Desk driving Icons, and an Avo something or other driving Generics and or Audience etc, all on the one gig, usually with the LD on the Avo, and the ML operators on their respective desks. I never really had a chance to use Icons as I was more of a VL fanboy and it was very early in my Career, but from what I can remember, the Icons were as good as any other fixture, and many LD's loved the scroll on the wash light being able to give them just the colours they wanted rather than the VL5 'plaid' at a time when being able to dial in a lee number to a calibrated console was but a pipe dream. Cheers Smiffy
  2. Ah the Icon-M. I can still taste the disappointment! I'm programming and Lighting Directing a tour next month for an LD that was, in his day as a programmer type, one of the Busier Icon Desk programmers. If you've any specific questions I'm sure I'll be able to ask, although programming time seems to be rapidly trickling away! Cheers Smiffy
  3. It's incredibly sad news regarding Scott, and my thoughts are with his family, friends, the band, and fellow crew members. It's despicable that it should happen, but it has. Reasoned debate is good, and it's human nature to speculate, from any discussion, only good can come of it. If even one opinion is changed it is a move in the right direction. I'm particularly interested as I have a show coming up under one of these next week, with a well known touring Artiste. I shall certainly have my eyes and ears open on stage, and be doing a considerable amount of looking up. I can only hope that all necessary precautions have been taken and all goes according to plan on the day. I'll certainly be speaking up if im not happy with anything, but, as we don't carry a touring rigger (kits always up when we get there) who makes the final judgement call?
  4. You could try swapping the Pan and Tilt Stepper motors over. Not an easy job. IIRC they are both the same. Cheers Smiffy
  5. I'm erring on the side of the belt being loose. Whip the sides off and see whether the belts can be made any tighter. HTH Cheers Smiffy
  6. In what way do they struggle? They can't get through the full range of motion? How fast are they moving? Really fast? Do they have to move so fast? Are the belts tight? Do the motors move freely without power or is it a bit tight? Are all the sensors clean and free from obstruction? How do they react on a slow cue? Will they always find the right position? Do they calibrate properly? Do they work fine initially and then after some time do they start to get iffy? Or is it straight away? Cheers Smiffy
