Baseband video (composite or component) carries only one picture. To carry multiple pictures over one cable (or indeed transmit it via an antenna), the video must be modulated onto a carrier frequency and mixed with other sources. Each picture within the RF (Radio Frequency) multiplex is then referred to as a Channel. By adding sound to each picture channel on a sub-carrier frequency, you then have the 20th Century marvel that is Television.
