Drama & Music training institution based in Cardiff. Based in the grounds of Cardiff Castle. Three performance venues - the Bute Theatre, Caird Studio and S4C Studio. All are studio spaces. Performances also take place in Cardiff's Sherman Theatre. The Stage Management department also run the successful Venue 13 at the Edinburgh Fringe festival.

Stage Management

The Stage Management course at RWCMD is a 3 year BA(Hons) course which starts with 12 weeks of broad training. After this, students spend 6 week blocks alternating between lectures and work-placements, taking on roles on the internal college productions, or external placements with potential employers.

As well as Stage Management, students on the course are able to work on productions in all departments, including designing Lighting and Sound, or working as Chief LX in one of the spaces.

Each year the college produces a plethora of drama productions in both English and Welsh - 2 tours, a musical (sometimes two), an opera, and 6-8 straight plays. Each of these is crewed entirely by the Stage Management department and directed by a professional director. Another arm of the college, MADSU (the Student Union company) produces a Summer Ball event each year, in a Marquee in Bute Park. This is also crewed by the Stage Management department, along with other SU events throughout the year.

Lighting Design

Starting this September, RWCMD will be launching a postgraduate diploma course in Lighting Design. The exact makeup of this course is to be confirmed. Two places on this course will be avaliable each year, sponsored in part by scholarships from Martin UK.

Other Courses

The college also offers courses in Theatre Design, Music, Acting, etc.
