The Programmer, in terms of the live events/theatre industry tends to be the person that works with the Lighting Designer to physically program the Lighting Desk, this is more complex than it seems - especially when moving lights are involved - as it involves setting up the desk, creating Groups and Pallettes, tidying up any Live Moves or Redundant Moves and ensuring that everything is done in a tidy and reliable fashion.
Increasingly the Moving Light Programmer is left to create looks by the Lighting Designer - instead of being told exactly what to do they are just told what the end effect should be.
