Par 36 or Pinspots are a type of Parcan, the number 36 refers to the diameter of the lamp in 1/8ths of an inch. Parcans use various different type of lamps, which have a fixed beam angle and can't be varied in the way that profiles or fresnels can.

Another use of PAR 36 lamps is in Molefays, which typically use pairs of 120v 650w DWE lamps in series. The picture below shows an 8 Lamp Molefay.
