> Pan

In Lighting Terms : Usually used to refer to the left-right movement of a lighting instrument. When referring to the positional control of an intelligent lighting fixture, if the Pan control is 16-bit it will be split into 2 DMX channels - Pan-Coarse (Most Significant Byte) and Pan-Fine (Least Significant Byte).

In Sound Terms : Usually used to refer to the routing options on a particular device. This is between Left and Right, or on more advanced consoles between Left Centre and Right. Often confused but quite different to Balance.

In Video Terms : The left-right movement of a Video Camera.

In Catering terms : An item in which food substances are placed to be prepared and cooked.

As we can see here the general left-right movement is very similar, the only thing that differs is if the source is sound or lighting.
