An example of a Female to Female XLR Gender Changer

Gender Changer is a term given to an adaptor which changes the gender of the end of a cable. This is often handy for creating extra returns or extra inputs on a Sound Multicore.

These devices can be a special unit or a short cable made up with 2 male or 2 female connectors.

The Slang term "Gender Benders" is sometimes used, or a "back-to-back", or some slightly rude ones....

Hands up who has used a Gender changer on each end of a cable they have already run around a complicated circuit on a stage the wrong way. Dont worry, you are not the only one.

Warning

Gender Changers should never be created for mains cables, as these can result in a voltage being applied over exposed pins on an unplugged plug. This is known as a widowmaker, for obvious reasons.
