Gaffer Gunk
Also known as "Gaffer Goo".
The residue that is left on cables after poor quality gaffer tape has been used to stick them down. Removal of such residue is tedious.
There has been some discussion in BlueRoom on ways to remove this residue. No solvent is perfect, but good reports have been received about using
- WD40
- RS/CPC/Maplin "Sticky label remover", which smells of oranges.
- Acetone
- IPA
- Cif
- Surgical Spirit
with WD40 and orange cleaner getting the most support. One advantage of WD40 is that it leaves a slight oily residue, which means that subsequent tape is less likely to stick to it!
