A specialised variation on the profile spot, manually operated to follow someone around a performance area in a tight beam of light. Followspots are carefully balanced so that the centre of gravity is as close as possible to the tilt pivot point (making them easier to operate), and they are fitted with an iris/blackout device, usually a colour magazine, and often a mechanical dimmer of some kind if a discharge light source is used.
