There are many different types of cables used in Sound Reinforcement and Lighting. This article is here to describe some (eventually most) of the types we see in the industry.
Cables of standard types can be bought or made up using soldering skills. Other types of cable which are not so common are usually made by the user to the correct length. Some types of connector use screw terminals or other fastening devices.
Good quality cables are essential for sound quality, good data transfer (eg DMX) reliability and performance. A cheap, low-quality cable or connector (or both) will let you down at the worst possible moment. In many cases a failure like this is unacceptable, there is no excuse for poor quality cables.
