Camlock is a 400amp single pole electrical connector used for high current applications, similar to powerlock connectors except generally accepted as being a lot more robust.

Camlock can be used for Single Phase and much more commonly Three Phase applications. Three phase connections require 5 separate cables, using the colours detailed here.

Applications

Camlock connectors are typically used to connect to generators and busbars. Powerlock inputs are available on many large dimmers such as the Avolites Art 2000 and also on large power distribution units.

Safety

It is possible to fit a finger into an Camlock socket, they must therefore be used with caution and unused sockets suitably protected or isolated. This is not the case with Powerlocks.

Camlocks and Powerlocks are not rated for connection or disconnection under load. These connectors should not be handled when Live!
