Copyright

A copyright statement will appear here. It's a wiki page, so is editable at the moment, but once agreed this is one of the few pages that will be locked.

We really should have done this before people contributed...

Lets try and finalise this page by this weekend, and then lock it. Bruce 21:23, 20 April 2006 (BST)

The intention is to use the same model as wikipedia - see here

The important thing is that this is "copyleft" - or more formally "conformant with the GNU Free Documentation License" - which some see as the opposite of copyright! Basically it's saying that by posting something the copyright remains with the original author(s), but permission is granted to freely copy, modify and redistribute the article. The only conditions are that the original authors must be acknowledged, and the same freedom must be granted on any subsequent use of any derivitive works.

Note that this has implications for commercial publishing.

The following is blatantly plagiarised from wikipedia. Which is OK as long as we acknowledge it :)

The license BlueRoom uses grants free access to our content in the same sense as Free Software is licensed freely. This principle is known as Copyleft. That is to say, content from this wiki can be copied, modified, and redistributed so long as the new version grants the same freedoms to others and acknowledges the authors of the BlueRoom Wiki article used (a direct link back to the article satisfies our author credit requirement). BlueRoom Wiki articles therefore will remain free forever and can be used by anybody subject to certain restrictions, most of which serve to ensure that freedom.

To fulfill the above goals, the text contained in the BlueRoom Wiki is licensed to the public under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). The full text of this license is at BlueRoom:Text of the GNU Free Documentation License.

Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation; with no Invariant Sections, with no Front-Cover Texts, and with no Back-Cover Texts.
A copy of the license is included in the section entitled "GNU Free Documentation License".
