Axial lanterns include:

Some older lamp designs are prone to early life failure when mounted axially. The problem being due to the hot filament sagging far more than it would if mounted Base Down, causing excessive metal fatigue.

The Silhouette 30 axial is particularly succeptable to this due to its use of T class lamps in an axial orientation.
