Hello got 2k to spend on speakers. We all ready have 4 martin ew 52. But there not meeting are needs and are gona be used as delays.

Looking at a mackie active system

2 * SWA1801 (bass bins)

2 * SRM 450

The SRM 450 will be flown and on sticks depending on the show, but I really wanted something like the SA1521, but they cant be flown. Does any one know of a active cab of similar spec http://www.mackie.com/products/sa1521/, which is light and can be flown at a similar price?

PA To be used for:

* Bands
* Dance Shows
* Musicals - micking both performers and orchestra

Do You think the SRM 450 are good enough for this?

Any suggestion of a pa? active or passive with a max cost of £2.2k?

Hi, Kev,

The 450s are designed to go with the 15" bins, unless you really need the extra bass output of the 18s. The 15s are quite a bit cheaper too. I can't remember the horn pattern on the 450s, but I'd check this with respect to to the required coverage pattern... or you could model it in EASE ;-)

I'm not bowled over by the flying arrangements on the 450s - tie backs are in the wrong place and the points themselves could be better.

The good point is that they provide a flexible PA system that can be used in the theatre and for other jobs.

Incidently, your £2k won't take you very far.... list price ex. VAT for two stacks of 450/1801 is £3315 and £2805 for two stacks of 450/1501. Discounts are available from your favourite dealers.

If you want to listen to a 450/1501 system, there's one that's recently gone into a church youth venue in Derby. Call me off list for details.

Other systems you may wish to consider include the smaller Turbosound and HK Audio systems. The latter have some powered options that are quite popular and sound pretty impressive.

Hope this helps,

Simon Lewis
