Hey guys.

I have a Congo Junior at work that is about 3 years old and had hardly ever been used. It does work but just sits in a corner collecting dust. Does anybody know if this would be worth me trying to sell it before I do so and if so how much would I be likely to get for it?

Any info would be greatly received.

Thanks

Mark

Well it's still a current model (worth about £6000 new I think) so I imagine it'd be well worth selling if you don't have a use for it smile.gif

What do you use then?

We have a 520i but we only have a small rig with generic washes etc and only 2 movers and a few scrollers so it is more than good enough for that and we all know how to use it. Dont really know why the previous technical manager brought it to be honest. We do also have a tiny studio as well but that only has 24 channels and generic lights only so for that we have a little juggler.

Melkin,

If I was you (and I'm sure some will disagree), I would keep the Congo and get rid of the 520.

There are still some places on next month's free Congo training at ETC in London - you might want to book a place and come down.

I imagine your previous technical manager bought the congo around the time that Strand lighting ceased to exist as they once were, before Phillips took over. Quite a few venues acquired congo's around this time, almost panic buying. Fair point at the time as no-one was really sure what was going to happen with strand, and what kind of support (if any) was going to exist after for any broken consoles. So an upgrade of hardware was (to some) the only viable option. Hindsight is of course a wonderful thing, but at the time there was a very good case for buying a congo, in that there wasn't much out there that could replace a broken strand, and ETC are a well known and respected brand.

If the desk isn't suitable for the venue, (but it sounds like could be with a little work and patience), then I'm sure someone will take it off your hands. But as Tomo suggests, the ETC training is definitely worth a look, to give you a start in the right direction.

Usedlighting.com is a good place to start as far as selling second hand gear goes. Although a private sale might work out better for you.
