hi

I've got a strand mx24 the DMX output isn't working (don't know about the other formats)
when any DMX equip is connected I get an error during selftest (if nothing connected it passes all tests)
the manual is refering to ic 3 and 9 as possible faillures
there is no ic 9 (there is an empty spot labled ic9 (doesn't seem to have been there anyways)
anybody any suggestions ?

If the self test runs OK I'd check your DMX cable to your dimmers - disconnect at the dimmer end or wherever it terminates. If it still self tests OK then it could be your demux (or dimmer)

I do not want to teach you to suck eggs, but are you sure the desk is actually spitting out DMX? ... I have had several bad experiences with being summoned to a MX that somebody has reset, and the desk has defaulted to another (D54???) protocol that also uses the DMX socket....

Edited to say that I have just re-read your original post, so disregard what I have written above...

I would suggest disconnecting each device in turn, and seeing if you can isolate the fault that way!

tried differend equip on DMX (DMX is selected in menu) (checked cable )
DMX receive led on dimmer is flashing (DMX or whatever protocol selected on mx)
just some randome flashes are being outputed (only visable on dimmer chan led's and led-par)and on different channels

IC9 is associated with a secondary SMX output which as far as I remember was not implemented.

If you have access to a voltmeter, please can you measure and advise the DC voltages between pins 1&2 and also pins 1&3 when external kit is connected to the DMX line.

Chances are one leg of DMX has gone and it's either a high resistance 4R7 series resistor or the DMX driver bug.

V dc between 1&2 1.04V
1&3 3.90V

4r7 isn't high resistance ? ( 4.7 Ohm ? )
found 3 of them seem to be ok (didn't take them of , but same values around 5 Ohms )

so maybe the driver bug ? haven't heard about it ,sound like something that can't be fixed ?

Without a DMX measuring device, those voltage readings are more or less what I would expect for a working DMX line connected to peripheral devices.

One other thing that springs to mind is what version of software are you running?
Early versions had the annoying "feature" that if you cleared the system, the patch also got cleared. So whilst the channels behaved, they weren't patched to any dimmers.

The patch would be the next port of call.

redface.gif only once gone thru that part of the menu and to be sure I put it at default thinking :can't go wrong with that. ,but now found out I could !!!!!

many thanks , made me go yahoo.gif

still don't know why I first got the seftest DMX faillure on power on ...
