Full Version: Robe Spot 170 "FR ER"

I went on a website called "Google" and it says that this is a frequency error, something to do with a power issue.

It's been doing it for a little while and hasnt seemed to have made much impact on the operation, with the exception of it reseting itself on one occasion.

Can anyone fill me in on what that might mean? I've tried it in different sockets around the venue to see if its my rig with power issues but it still shows me "FR ER". And no other fixture is doing this.

Is there a jumper for 50hz and 60hz? if so might be worth checking
willdart666
A jumper? I'm a little new to problems like this. :-s

check the manual,if you aint got one im sure theres one on the robe site somewere and near the back will be instructions on how to change the power and frequencies settings, double check these are set correct

Ahh, found it! Last page.
Ok, well I'll comapre it to another and see if its been put back together wrong. It's been doing it since its service and has been back a few times since with no luck. Apparently they can't see a fault.

Any idea if this would effect its DMX output? As in when its connected to another. I ask because a second 170 started playing up when it was connected to the problem 170, but was fine before that.

Mmm I've had this before, spurious Fr Er on robe fixtures. Whilst it indicates frequency error, it can also be triggered by a brief interruption to the mains when the light is working. The error is cleared by doing a DFSE factory reset and then setting up the parameters from scratch.

To be honest the power to the room has been crappy for years. We get crazy interference from all angles and no one seems to be able to pin point the problem. I suppose thats what comes when a university decides to turn a badminton court into a venue!

Had 4 of the 170's out a school production of WWRY - one of them showed the frequency error a couple of times.

It's usually nothing - can be triggered by a quick mains interruption as has been said. Turn the light off and then on again and all is well.

Sometimes it can remember it, hence why I said to do a DFSE, I think the power glitch can scramble the eerom.

Ah I've never had it 'remember' it before ya see. But will remember that for future use.

Well at first I did think it was just showing it for no reason but it does keep messing up, reseting and the like.

...As I've wrote the above statement, a terrible, terrible thought has just popped into my head. The fella who does the lights for the small gigs and club nights said to me yesterday "So...intelligent lighting is plugged into Dimmers, and Hot power is everything else?". He did say that he just got his words muddled, but its not the first time he's asked me that....oh feck.

Is it possible to plug the 170's into a different ring main and just let them run for a while? See if they throw up the FR ER then?
willdart666
Yeah should be. I'm not 100% on how the venue is wired, it's all a bit random, I'll look in that.
