I am looking for a smoke machine with either DMX or wireless control for under £150, any advice would be appreciated.

I have had a quick search on google but the problem is alot of online shops do not have accounts which is required as we are a school

I suggest you speak to some of the main theatre suppliers to see what deals they might have for you...

I have one of these from that list:

http://cpc.farnell.com/kam/ksm-dmx1600v/fo...ical/dp/DP30404

from the use I have had its fine, only downside is only 1 DMX channel so either a big blast or none theres no option to make it a fogger. I can honestly say its a big high jet of smoke, it will fill a decent size room real quick, the wireless remote is a no go for me as it stays on far too long, but if you use DMX, you could do a small puff, not sure if this will damage it though.

hope this helps

Odd...

Single channel smokemachines are common, and still allow for variable output.
And by the look of that one I'd suspect it certainly should have that amount of control.

the only control I have via my DMX software is the adjustment of the duration of time of ploom and then time between plooms, theres no way of changing volume. my software only allows a minimum of 0.5 secs ploom as this could block the m/c if it is too small a puff.but thats a limitation of the smoke m/c not the software.from what I gathered from other BR forums it needs a second channel for the control of a fan to help in its use as a fogger.
this is why its a good smoke m/c but cant do haze/fog as its all or nothing.

I think you are getting possibly confused with a haze machine which are usually at least two channels to dictate fog volume and fan speed for dispersion.
In your software it sounds like you are setting time on and a time off, but when you are programming the machine to be on, are you specifing a DMX level, or just full on. I can understand if you are using a desk that has aux type bump buttons that are just on or off (DMX0 or 255)* but if you run the machine as if it was a standard generic dimmer, you should have full control over the fog volume, but remember it's a fogger, not a hazer.

(* A Jester Aux Channel is defaulted as a On-Off Switchalso, my Behringer2412 has two such bump buttons that do this)

I see what you are saying, my original post was to state that its only a smoke m/c and nothing else, so I think you are agreeing with me, the kam 1600v will only operate at a 1channel DMX value of 255, it is possible to set the software to give output options but the hardware doesnt support it, I should have gone to the next model up but cost and size restricted my options.

A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on.
