Full Version: Hiring radio-mics in Germany

Hi. My first post here...
I'm taking a school show to Germany at the end of June and the school we're exchanging with has not managed to hire us any radio mics for the principals to wear on stage. We will be taking three of our own to use in the unlicensed band, but need a further 5 to make the show work properly. Can anyone suggest an international hire company who could resolve this directly for us, or better still a german company we could approach? We are going to Bad Hersfeld in Hessen. Otherwise I guess we'll need to hire here in the UK, and delve into the German licensing laws to keep it legal over there. Has anyone done this? Is it straightforward?
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Mics that work in the unlicensed band in the UK wont be able to be used in Germany.

Thats all the help I can give I'm afraid.

It may be worth giving someone like Handheld Audio a call - they're more likely to have experience of this kind of situation than your average hire company.

I seem to remember a similar thread on the forums at ProSoundWeb - although from the point of view of an American wanting use his wireless in Europe. There may be some useful info there if you have a search for it.

Try speaking to someone in technical at Sennheiser. They are usually very helpful.

You could try Showtec in Cologne, although I'm not sure who to ask for.

The Sennheiser web pages have a very useful guide to legal frequencies in countries all over the world and the section on German HERE seems to indicate (under the "frequencies for visitors from overseas" section" seems to indicate that you could use UK UHF frequencies, both the license free and lower licensed ones.

The page also gives a link to the German regulatory body but you'll need a German speaker. My German is limited to ordering any number of large beers up to five.

Sorry, can't help on a German hire company...the one I used in Frankfurt many years ago doesn't seem to be there any more.

Thomann have a pile of demo units (a budget brand but very reliable and good sounding) that are tuned to the equivalent of D band for use in Germany. If you're a current regular customer I'm sure you could arrange something with them for a hire of the units as they have great logistics within the company aswell as internationally. I've benefited from this before. Although it was with LED lighting not wireless microphones.
