Ive been offered a pair of either JBL prx515 or prx535 brand new at an amazing price! (nearly buy one get the other FREE!)

I heard them today and they sound pretty good and they each have a high spl level peaking at 134db (im guessing that means their quite loud?)

The only problem is I can only find a limited information on the speakers, I need to know the voice coil sizes and cant seem to find it. Can anyone help?

Plus has anyone used or heard these before, as I need to choose either on tuesday (23rd)

Thanks

Why do you need to know the voice coil diameters ? Have you emailed JBL ? If this helps the compression drivers are probably 1.5" dia and the cone drivers , being neodynium will be small , maybe 2" dia . I have a pair of SRX738 and they sound awesome even at low power levels . Mind you there are bi-amped with a pair of MC2 amps .

I wanted to know, because ive heard the jbl eon g2 speakers and ive always felt they lack bass (15" version) they use a 2" coil. As long as the PRX stuff has a 3" thats all that matters really.

The self powered PRX stuff looks good on paper. they are powered individually im told. the 515 (1.5" + 15") is biamped 400 watts and a 100 watt Class D Crown amps. the 535 is triamped (1" + 6.5" + 15") 100 wattsm 150watts 400 watts.

Its just im going to have limited time with the speakers and wanted to be sure im going to get enough throw.

The SRX stuff is suppose to be fantastic gear, but im trying to get away from having amps, sick of carrying them.

thanks

I've assumed you've not looked at JBL's website:

already seen this, the website was first place I looked.

Doesnt state what the voice coil sizes are. Thats all I need to know.

thanks

I wouldn't compare PRX to Eons . The SRX series appear to be very similar to the PRX series except not being active . The 738 has a compression driver a 4" horn loaded mid and an 18" bass . The bass unit has a neodynium magnet like the 15" units in the PRX. As I have said the voice coil is tiny (compared to standard 18" units) but they are definately not lacking in bottom end grunt .

Well I bought the PRX515 speakers. Not a bad cab. Only used them twice upto now, VERY LIGHT!!!! But physically a big cab!

I was looking at other stuff like RCF TT range and KV2 ex range, but a friend works in a recently took over sound control shop and they were flogging these dirt cheap. (Paid £958 for the pair - NEW!)

Hey they still have some PRX 512's and PRX535's left, excellent prices, grab a bargain! lol

thanks for the help guys, hopefully I will be happy (if thats possible) trying to find the perfect sound is like searching for the holey grail
