Full Version: Rattling cab

Ok, so I have a speaker cab (namely Impulse 200) that has started to rattle.
It's not the driver, it's the actual two halves of the moulded cab vibrating together. (when I compress the back to the front with my hands it stops)

I have tried removing the screws to take it apart, but there is two that just rotate, so I'm thinking the 'ears?' on the driver part of the cab have broken off.
Anyone have any suggestions regarding removing these troublesome little screws?
(Ill post some pics if it helps)

I have thought about trying to hold the actual piece of plastic that the screws are screwed into,(with a small flat blade) but the access hole is only just big enough for the pozi, let alone a small flat blade as well, oh, and its pretty deep too.

My second question.
When or if I get the cab apart, is there any kind of sealant or gasket I could use to help seal it?

Cheers,
John Denim.

One way I've found to be quite effective in stopping rattles like this is the self adhesive acoustic matting that car radio people use to stop the car's bodywork rattling.

I think the stuff I used was called Dynamat - I've used it on all my monitors to stop the handles rattling biggrin.gif

Silicone would work but would be awful to get the speaker apart again!

Cheers guys.

Lets say I use silicone or foam.
Should I apply a bead and let it dry first?
I'm thinking if I edge the two halves together when wet I may have a problem getting into it again!
