Full Version: DB Sub 15 construction?

Hi all

As some of you may have read from my previous post I've just purchased a pair of EV ZX3 speakers.
To go with these I've bought a DB Sub 15, went to collect it today but there was a problem (dealers not mine) so won't
get it till next week.
Looking at the one they had on display I was suprised at the design. The front was sealed apart from a small opening at the bottom. is this a common sub design? I just expected the front to be mesh covered.

Thanks, Jason

its a bandpass design, whereas you were expecting a reflex design.

I'd found a bit on the sound on sound website, I did not realise that bandpass was the design of the speaker, I thought it was to do with the material used unsure.gif

The speaker I went to collect was split internally, the piece that holds the driver had come away from the main box meaning the 2 chambers were not sealed.

I have seen one that blew a fuse when it was fired up, removed the amp module and oh look, there's a stanley blade inside left from the Indian manufacturer. Nice quality work that.
I have also seen one with plywood that has delaminated. Obviously these things are built to a price but this is a bit too cheap really. Shame 'cos they're a great little performer in all other respects.

It sounds like yours has been dropped if the internal sections have been ripped apart. Good work by the retailer to have spotted it. I guess it was rattling rather badly. You wouldn't get that service from a "box-shifter" co.

Was in a place last week where they were taking out 2 amp modules from these that had failed. They'd taken the drivers with them aswell. I believe they'd had a severe thrashing.
