Anyone here come accross any systems I could use for wirelessly monitoring my desk (at a big job in 2 weeks).

The best I could come up with was some TV style IR cans, but why do that when I love my HD25s!!!

Been trawling ebay for a <cough> chinese<cough> in-ear monitor system but no luck.

IT just has to be "short" range within the defines of the control area as all the mains distro & central gubbins etc will be located near control.

Sorry - you want to wirelessly monitor what? You menton IR, so do you mean you just want to be able to hear the headphone output without a cable? What for?

Wireless headphones are easily available in any Comet, Currys or hi-fi shop - or you could just make a very long lead up which would no doubt work better and let you wear the HD25s. BUT - as you need to be near the mixer to press the buttons, how does this help?

You could use a budget IEM system... or something like this

I know a local engineer who does this. If he has battery changes to make at an interval on radio mics or has had a problem with a specific beltpack, he'll put on an IEM receiver, pfl the channel and head on to the dressing rooms. He can do a check without bringing the member of cast out FOH or having to un-wire everything from them.
Works quite well.

I use db technologies iem's. Fixed frequency and their range isn't amazing, but they do the job for me, though not for this job.

Check the impedence the iem receiver will drive. You may find (I don't know) it'll only drive small, in ear type headphones. Might not be a problem.

To add to this, I have seen this used in the big top at soul survivor and it seemed to work quite well. I quite like the idea of all the freedom wireless gives you because it allowed the monitor engineer to move around freely, without worrying about cables getting in the way.

He was using what looked to be a Sennheiser G2 IEM system.

The rpoblem with wireless monitoring(I have tried) is that if you buy standard sennheiser wireless HP designed for TV they dont have the bandwith that cabled HPs have and then you have problems with cracks and bangs in the link between the tansmitter and HP that may fool you into thinking a channel is poping. As for monitor techs wearing IEMs you will find that the band were also wearing them. The only reason he had them on was a refernece as to what the bands mixes were like. He will still have had a wired pair of Cans aswell. Because no matter what you spend on wireless nothing is better than copper.
