Hi
I've just bought a pair of ev sxa 360's and already own a pair of EAW jfx290's.
I've bought the ev's intending to mainly to use them as monitors and as a possible emergency FOH in case
one of my amps or EAW's stop working.I'm intending to get a pair of EAW sbx220 bins at some stage
but they are very pricey and I think will involve buying one or maybe two power amps to run them.
because of the cost involved this will probably have to wait.I think also it may involve me getting a
trailer to fit it all in.
I've seen an ev sba760 (active sub) going for £700 new and wondered if this would be worth me buying
to use with my EAW's for now or maybe use with the ev360's as mains if I want to take out a smaller lighter system.
Any thoughts on whether this is worth considering or would they be too inferior to my EAW's.
the EAW's have great clarity to my ears but I would like a bit more bass especially for bigger gigs.

any thoughts are very much appreciated

Well it would certainly reinforce the bottom end, whatever tops you use.

Have you heard one?
I have not so cannot comment on the sound, why not give it a demo at your local pro audio dealer.

The other thing, is if you're going to be buying this sub as a stopgap and occasional small rig sub perhaps don't spend too much cash on it. I know that thomann sell an active 18" sub for about £295 which is reported to be very good.

A good thought Matt.

The sub in question is the box ta18.
Not heard it so can't comment, but as far as the price goes I don't think you can really go wrong.
If it goes down as low and has the same power (wrms) as a more expensive cab, would it pretty much do the same?

haven't heard my sxa360's yet! awaiting delivery next week.
I've heard sx300's before and think they sound pretty good especially for their weight and I used to own a pair of stage 200's which were good too so I'm hoping the sxa360's will be at least as good but hopefully better.
I tend to buy things on recommendation and reviews as I don't think you really find out if you like them until you've used them a fair bit in different venues.
the sxa360's came up cheap so I thought I might aswell give them a try,I'll use them at the very least as monitors but if they sound really good I might use them out front sometimes as they will be alot more portable than my jfx290's and the 2 amps I need to run them.
I've found over the years that with musical equipment,if you buy good stuff at the right price you rarely lose much money on it.
In fact sometimes you even come out on top. :-)

A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on.

thanks for your reply Matt.
trouble is I always really struggle to buy the cheap stuff...I just can't do it as I know I'll always want to replace it in the future.
I think it's the way I was brought up with my parents forcing me to wear woolworths trainers when I wanted the adidas one's! lol!
mind you that thomann box does look like it would be a good place to keep my rabbit, with the chicken wire over the hole at the
bottom! lol! :-)

yeah, it looks ugly as sin. might be a gem though, as far as sound goes!

I used to own a pair of mackie 1501's, 600 watts 15" sub. They had a lot of thump for the money and they are a one man carry too! you could probably pick a pair up for no more than say 600 pound second hand too.

Those thomann subs, are they any good? does anyone know what components they use? what are their SPL? Ive been looking at the TT subs myself, but their a bit pricey, might look into the thomanns and get 2 or maybe 4 instead of the TT's for the same price. hmm

Just wanted to offer an opinion on the subs...

We have a pair of sba750's and they really are lovely subs. Ok, they're not the sba760's in question, but I can only imagine these are a minor upgrade on the 750's and therefore should be better! Just my 2p's worth!

If anyone does actually know what the difference is between the two speakers I'd like to have my curiosity satisfied!
