Stab in the dark is this one.

I have just picked up ( given) a pair of squire Eliminator bins , one is empty , the other has the origbal 15" driver , date stamped 04/72 blink.gif .
I would love to replace the drivers but there are so many on the market , I`ll use a active crossover set to 120-150 hz.
The speakers mount through the baffel , which has a 370mm cut out , held in place by 4 clamps.
Any ideas on a driver ?

Cheers

I think the current eliminators use RCF drivers. (correct me if I am wrong)

With the way that you describe it, its the 'old way' that drivers used to be mounted to the cabs, with the clamps.
I would think that any 15" driver would fit, Maplin have a eminence 15" driver here.

Just because it fits, doesn't mean it will sound any good.

I don't know the boxes in question, but I would try and find out the T/S specs of the original driver first.

Maybe the pics will help.

Any ideas who I could contact about the speakers to get the specs.

cheers

I would not have thought the original drivers would be as good sound quality as todays counterparts.

I suppose it's all down to what you want them to do.
As I said any 15" driver would fit these, and I would suggest fitting speakon sockets to the rear instead of the jacks.
What kind of budget have you got?
An EV driver will set you back £140 from Thomann, or you could use one of their OWN brand which is £65.
Still, it looks like it could be a nice project for you.

Crumbs... memories of gazing through shop windows come flooding back!

Roger Squire Ltd., made disco boxes in the 70s... here's an old catalogue, complete with obligatory dolly bird draped over the speakers ;-)

The speaker does look to be circa mid 70s (it's a ferrite), has a relatively small voice coil diameter and probably handles only 100W. Any replacement should be designed for horn loaded use.

I think it's fair to say that single 15" W bins won't provide staggering low frequency reproduction - it helps to stack about 4 together.

It's very unlikely that a modern driver will behave the same as your existing vintage 15". You would really need to put new drivers in both boxes, at which point the box design itself might be a bit of a compromise....

I suspect that a modern box would perform better ;-)

Fantastic archive Simon!

That will give me hours of reading pleasure. (errrmm, I am talking about Simon's old catalogue btw)
Nice to see the good ole '58 in there too.
