Hi All.
I have been thinking about getting an LMS for sometime, I have never used one and wondered if it would benefit me at all?
I perform (and do the sound from the stage) in a vocal instrumental duo, working mainly small/medium sizes halls, weddings, some corporate, and the good old working mens clubs up and down the country.
My FOH P.A consists of:
Dynacord powermate mk2 powered mixer
Behringer GEQ. (not the FBQ, the older model)
Studiomaster ax 2500.
Peavy impulse 200 tops.
Peavey 118xt bass cabs.
I am currently coming out of the main outs on the desk, into GEQ, into ax2500, out from the hi section of the ax2500 via the built in crossover (set at 100 hz) into the power amp inputs on the mixer, and out of the ax2500 into the 118xt's.
If I took out the GEQ and included an LMS, ( I'm thinking the behringer as I don't have a big budget and reviews on here are good) would I be able to give my old cabs a better/sweeter/warmer sound?
I am looking to replace my cabs very soon but in the meantime want to try to improve the quality of sound, if I can.
Thanks,
John Denim.

A LMS is able to replace your EQ easily and it can also act as a Crossover Limater Delay and Compresser.
Your setup is an odd one I have to admit.
But It sounds like it could do the job as the EQ and the crossover built into the AX2500 amp meaning you would have more controll of the frequency and cut off slope of the subs and tops.
It would allow more controll of the crossover and be a different way of EQing the mix.
Do I think you need one? No.

Why is this setup so strange Josh?
Is it the powered desk?
I bought the powermate primarily for the quality of components, the preamps and the notch filters.
It is the same as a cms 1000 but with 750w AES a side.

Yes, John it's the powered mixer bit of the system that is making your wiring setup look strange but it's grand once you can wire it up. :L
Now. I'd have to agree with josh on this one - you don't actually need a LMS at the moment.
Whenever you decide on what your new rig is going to be it'll be time to get one then.
I'd also hold off in case you manage to buy a complete second hand rig with rack's and stack's that way your not going to duplicate equipment.

please note that the behringer DCX2496 doesn't have a graphic EQ. I run the LR out on my desk into a DBX 231 before it hits any LMS system, though my powered system doesn't require it.

I'm currently sitting here looking at one and I have to say that although it doesn't have a GEQ as such it has IMO a much better Parametic EQ instead which can be applied to any op the inputs and/or any or the outputs.

There is a parametric eq on the desk which at the moment I just set flat as I am using the Behringer.
Maybe the eq on the desk is better?
If I could just explain about the reason for the powered desk.
I originally went for the 'powerless' equivalent of the Dynacord, the cms 1000.
But at only around £200 extra I though "well I may as well have the amps", which come in handy when the wife sings solo, we just take the Impulse for full range.
The way that it's wired is that the high outs from the amp crossover go to the amp inputs, which puts only 100hz up into the tops connected to the power amps in the desk.
