Hi all,
In a hall we are doing up we are planning on putting some XLR sockets along the front of the stage so we dont have cables all over the place. I want to use the sockets that kind of pop up similar to
http://www.maxisound.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=F267WG I was wondering if anyone know of any with just 2 XLR sockets on them as 4 is a bit to many really and also in black. I have found black but that all seem to have 4 sockets or a combination of various sockets.
Thanks

For £15 for the
four-way from CPC, just fit them! The cost of doing the installation will be MUCH more than that. I'd maybe put 2M 2F in the middle, and two 2F 2Speakons near the wings. Shame they don't do a BNC or RCA/Phono variant; you could cable for video monitors too.
One thing to be aware of. We have a couple of dips in our larger hall which the cleaners love to fill with wet polish. I've now put the rather fiddly hinged rubber flaps on the connectors, I don't know how it would work with these "pop-ups".

Get the Terralec book from Terralec.co.uk they have some things like that, and do mail order. Plan for your needs to increase! even put some tie lines in and DMX too! It's amazeing how much cheaper the installation is compared with a later ammendment or alteration

Agreed with the above.
To put more in the installation cost will go up a little, the cost of parts will go up by, whatever you by. However, just put in what you think you need now, and later on when u need more, the installation price is the same as before, doubling the cost. Look at the price of 12 pair multi against 8. And then at 4 pair. Wouldn't it be silly to put in 8, and then put in another 4. (Random example)

Alternatively, I might be tempted to put in one of the "AV" versions in case somebody wants to plug in a laptop for a Power Point presentation or something.
Whichever way you go though, it's worth trying to cater for the future when doing an installation--it's far cheaper to put in a few extra cables now than it will be to try and pull them in later.

Hi there darkness
In my experience of installations like this you should think of the total number of things you could ever possibly use and then double that number to be somewhere close to be just about having enough a year or two from now!
It is much easier to install more than you need right now so that you have the availability later when you need it

Though do remember that if you expand your initial thoughts and go for options like phonos, the cable length is important. Unbalanced lines and long distances don't mix.

We currently only use 3 mics spaced out along the front of the stage (and have done for the past 3 years) I was originally thinking about 1 pair of XLR points at each mic, that way the mic stand would hide the connection slightly so the audience don't notice it as much although I suppose I could put to sets of 4 between the mics. As we have only ever used 3 I thought 6 would be more than enough although a couple of jack points in one of them could come in handy.
I've found these
http://www.amazon.com/Dayton-FB5XK-Floor-D...k/dp/B000PHL8EK but can only seem to find them on american sites. Has anyone found these or similar on a UK site. I would prefer black rather than silver as the stage is black and it would look better.

The Dayton ones you have found on the USA Amazon site are probably the original ones that have now been widely copied.
I have used the Studiospares/CPC type - which are very inexpensive, but I didn't think that they were very robust - and wasn't certain that the hinge and latch mechanism would last. They are normally supplied complete with connectors, but - needless to say - they are NOT Neutriks.....
Also there is not very much room to dress the wiring from the connectors - and this has to move as the boxes are opened and closed.
Having said that - as far as I am aware, they are still functioning OK - despite being used a great deal for at least a couple of years!

Could you not quite easily modify one? as it would appear that the connectors are screwed in...
