luckily this isn't at all vague.
I've used them in the past and I do like them, quite alot actually, but they wouldn't be my first choice for alot of things. They're too big for a normal pole (there are flying yokes and frames and pole adaptors available but it makes for a bloody heavy box on a stick). but they're not quite loud enough for a full on ground stacked array*
*loud box, but not to res 4 standards

I heard a band once with these.
They were running them at full range but also had a cheap pair of wharfdale subs underneath, probably just to raise them up a bit?
I must admit I liked them, being a 3 way the mid and highs sounded nice and clear.
By all accounts they are pretty expensive, and at 42kgs each not the lightest cab in the world.
John Denim.
To add:
According to another sound forum someone has said 4000 euro's, which converts to £3.187.49
Not sure if this is for two? Also not sure if this is correct.
Just trying to help.

Not sure on pricing, retail could be potentially over £3k per box. You can certainly pick a pair up for under £3k though.

Sounds good, I can build it up I suppose as my I currently don't have £3000

The Res2 and Res4 have very little differance in price.
My money would go on the 4's. Such a nice box (well.......... when used in pairs above 3x 218's)
I'm biased though.

im no expert on Funktion one, however it looks like the Res 4's definately need additional bass? whereas Res 2's are capable of running alone?

maybe not, £2500 per cab for the Resolution 2's
But the resolution 1 is £1400! maybe I might just go for those...

You would be better spending that money on a decent 2nd hand rig I mean £2800 for 2 speakers!!!! you would get a good Martin rig for that money 2nd hand!!!
Plus have you thought about how your amps to power the speakers! and any other outboard gear you might need???

yeah I know, I was thinking about some Martin H3's
Rob_Beech

The H3's are a very nice box, don't get me wrong, but if you are going to buy subs with them then they are not going to be that cheap.
An example, I sold some W8 and W8S less than 12 months ago for just under £1400 per stack, it wasn't in top condition cosmetically but it certainly still does the job audibly. You'd struggle to get H3 and S218 for that money, and it's only the blackline range (perfectly useablem, infact very good, but not waferont).
To the absolute extreme you can get MSL10 for the price of firewood, but then again, it's not the most practical system in the world.

Just to throw another contender into the mix, we've got a martin audio W3 rig which is part of our hire stock and is definitely not for sale. This is a very similar speaker to the Res 2 in that it is a 3 way 15" box. Because they're not the most fashionable box these days you can get 4 tops for about 3k. And they sound very good. See
here for an example of the price these boxes go for second hand. I have no connection with the seller of the above speakers.

The F1 gear can be very difficult to work with in certain situations - it's a good box, but needs an equally good and experienced engineer to get the best out of it. If you aren't hugely experienced the F1 stuff can be like a big neon sign letting everyone know.
It's not cheap and you'll striuglle to find a dealer who will discount it as much as other manufacturers, and it's not active so you will need to buy amps. The current recommended amp for F1 gear is from MC2.
If you're only looking for a 2-4 box system, then F1 gear may not make the best business sense for you; and you will get a far better return on a good 2nd hand rig by Martin, L'Acoustic, Meyer or Turbosound.

Well ive found a few H3 systems ex-hire for about £1700 a pair, yeah subs will cost more, but for now I think I can manage without, but I would be buying some with this system
I have never read a bad review on F1, everyone seems to like them. However, I've heard several F1 systems used by various bands and festivals and never heard anything but a horrible noise.
Perhaps I've just been unlucky.
Conversely I've heard a similar number of Aspect rigs and they've always sounded superb.
Or have I just been lucky?
Bob.

Hi,
I'm not going to get into the "is Funktion-One any Good" thing but I a will help with everything I can.
Firstly, with any high end Speaker system you really need to decide what you want from the system.
The Res2, Fantastic Loudspeaker, im not sure that ive heard any other speaker that claims to be "full range" sound truley Full range like the R2.
R2
Uses, Dj monitor, Disco, Night Club fills and main system with F218/F221 etc, good for Live also.
R4
Uses, Foh-Live- Dance system, in fill, outfill and dealys for R5 systems. You will need Bass.
List price on R2 is £2700 +vat. Discounts are available on this price
List Price on R4E is £2950+vat. "" "" "" ""
Funktion-one have a list of Amps which have been AB'd and chosen to ensure that the systems sound as good as they can. This list includes, MC2, FFA, Lab Gruppen etc. Buying a Funktion-one system or any system for that matter and putting the cheapest Amplifier that you can buy on it is pointless.
R1 and 1.5 are great and so is the New Monitor which will be available soon, this is a treat for all monitor engineers and artists too....!
