im intending to hire about 10 martin robocolour 400's for a show next year, and I am jsut wondering if you need an external psu for them like you need for scroller's. or if the DMX plug's directly into them?
nd secondly, what power od they need? im assuming they dont plug into a 15a dimmer, do they need 15amp hard power?

sorry if some of these questions are blindingly obvious, but its early and im at school. so dont expect my brain to be working

thanks, matt

IEC power in (hard power, NOT dimmer), DMX (on 3 pin XLR) plugs straight in.

And don't forget you'll also need a short jumper lead for the DMX feed before the Robocolors as they use the old Martin 3 pin DMX where pin 2 and 3 are swapped in comparison to normal 3 pin DMX fixtures. This should almost certainly be provided when they are hired, but just posting this for reference for you.

Make sure you hire a big hammer too to hit them when they start playing up.. I find the pro400 the most temperamental piece of kit around, CX2 a far better unit.

they come with a built in height sensor and sense of humour. get a group of them together, test them before use to check they all work, as soon as they detect that youve hung them in the light rig they find it extremely funny for one of them to do something extremely random; get the misbehaving one down to ground level and it will work fine and one of the other litle .............. will start misbehaving, and then they all start laughing at you

sounds very much like the ones ive used, Fantastic units for shining onto mirrorballs or even hung on top of poles to illuminate "pole dancers" ( mmm ) but by heck there a pain.

Dont think to this day ive hung one and got to work at first strike, Think they require a little human touch because when up ladders next to them they seem to respond.

Also like freezing and locking out if not received a command for a while, need to restrike to get a response
