But if I was to hire it for my use (say I was moving house or what ever) I would need it?

no if you hire a 7.5t truck for your own personal use, eg moving house, or just like driving boxes around drinking fuel, then you don't need any kind of O licence, just a c1 cat on your driving licence, or have passed your test before 97!!!!

Not quite right, Chris. "VOSA state that it's up to you to prove that the vehicle is not being used illegally" so guilty until proven innocent! Or rather a reverse burden of proof.

Oh how wonderfully fair. One has to love the government for just making it so damn easy to earn an honest living!

A hypothetical lawsuit would almost certainly rest on them having "reasonable grounds" and taking "reasonable measures against us" which I'm sure they could make somebody believe they did.

As an aside. If the rubbish little VOSA car with it's ambers instructs you to pull over. Do you HAVE to comply?

You don't have to, but all they do is pass your details onto police. The majority of the time if you see a VOSA car, you'll find a traffic car nearby.

With regards to moving house, you can get away with it as it is 'not for hire or reward' but they will not let you go until you can proove everything. They will want to see as much proof as possible.

Errm! Sorry Dodge, I think they passed a law in 2004 giving traffic officers (on behalf of the traffic commissioners) the same stop powers as police. In a rush now but will linky it if needed,
Kerry
