Hi...I'm doing an event in London at Olympia in a few days, and need to know of some local Music/Theatrical stores close by in case I'm in need of something....Cables, gaff tape, etc. We have Guitar Centers in the US, which is like a chain that has mostly audio and some lighting/dj stuff, anything like this in this area of London?
Thanks! -JEFF |

For cable stuff, connectors, electronic sundries, gaffa/electrical tape etc. there is a store in King Street, Hammersmith called Maplin. Otherwise it is a trip on the tube to Tottenham Court Road and the delights of a "music street" called Denmark Street; there is a shop called the London PA Centre (23 Denmark St) as well as various stores in Tottenham Court Rd itself.
You may be shocked at some of the London prices though! There is also Tour Supply who you might be familiar with but they are based in Manchester but I'm sure they will be happy to deliver stuff to you if you can't get out and about. Maybe someone else has some suggestions? -------------------- Here I am in the pouring rain, the sound tower is about to float away, what on earth am I doing here? Oh yes it's the festival season.....I love this job!

Rather than head into town it might be easier to drop in on Studiospares.

Hi Jeff, welcome to the Blue Room
Studio Spares are way up in NW London and Maplin are a bit like Radio Shack. If it's just cable, tape, screws and other stand-building sundries you need, then you can often buy them on-site at Olympia, albeit at a premium price. Contact the organisers, to see whether this will be the case on your event. A quick search of the area reveals... Homebase 195 Warwick Road, London, W14 8PU. Tel: +44 (0)20 7602 5125 Homebase are a large, national chain of D.I.Y.* stores. This branch is just over 0.5 miles from Olympia. Fulham Electrical & D.I.Y 232-234, North End Road, London, W14 9NU. Tel: +44 (0)20 7385 6744 Just over one mile from Olympia, by West Kensington underground station and the Famous Three Kings pub - about the same distance as the Maplin in Hammersmith. You can use the zip codes to find them in Google Maps. Hope that helps and that you have a pleasant trip to our fair Capital *D.I.Y. = "Do It Yourself" - a popular British pastime |
