Thirdtap
Way beaten to this Surely "Stage Lighting for Theatre Designers by Nigel Morgan" is a must?? I must agree it is one of the best lighting books I have read. Some books have a nice flash cover with the new XN Turnip moving spot TM on the cover but inside the book is just a reprint of a 1970 edition. sam.henderson
Backing up one of James' recomendations; Just read the following, it had some quite useful expliantion of flying systems which I used to help explain flying to a few newbies. Good synopsis of all the roles in the theatre. Title: Stage Management, a gentle art Author: Daniel Bond Publisher: A & C Balck London (these publishers seem to do a lot of theatrical books) ISBN: 0-7136-4551-2 available from; Amazon UK Sam
730 doors
How about for a great reference book Lighting Technology : A Guide for the Entertainment Industry ?I found many answers to questions I didn't even know I was asking in it. It's a bit hefty for the beginner, but its packed full of useful info.

Light Console
More votes for Nigel Morgan's book, Light Fantastic by Max Keller for the pictures alone..., and anything that covers history of lights is also worth listing. shaw_dave
I think that performance lighting design by Nick Moran is a very good book going through the whole process of putting on a show
David Ripley
Again, without appearing facetious 'The Art of Coarse Acting' by Michael Green, despite being written in the 60's and about amateur shows is still horribly close to real life! I think most of us can relate to the backstage sections of the book, no matter how 'professional' our experience!Amazon Ought to be required reading on most courses David
