Now I've got further into the program some features, Cue Control, Preview, don't appear to work.
I have emailed the author.

Email reply sent Gerry. :)

Some users have reported success under Windows 7, while others have reported that the sound quality is poor. I can only assume that this is some issue with the audio drivers? I don't have a Windows 7 machine so I can't really help with it yet.

Latest version (2.5.1.6) is located here.

That's the thing. It seems to have a poor sound quality on my laptop - but not my desktop. Maybe a driver update is needed.

And I also had it crash catastrophically 5 minutes before a show. I even rebooted several times but nothing. (Praise the Lord for the backup CD) But it was running well throughout rehearsals. So frustrating as not I can't bring myself to trust it. Even though it would be a really really useful piece of software.

Can you detail the steps that led up to the crash and in what way it crashed?

EDIT: Maybe these posts need to be moved over to the main MultiPlay thread. Thanks.

I've just installed 2.5.3.0 on a laptop with Widows 7, using a Focusrite Saffire 6 audio interface.

I've always used Sound Cue 8 in the past on an XP machine, but it won't work under Vista or 7 so I'll have to get up to date! I'm therefore new to Multiplay so can't comprehensively test all the functionality bit it seems to work fine on the Windows 7 pc.

Audio quality was awful though. A 320kb mp3 played by Multiplay sounded really muffled. It was fine played using VLC however, so I assume the sound card etc. is working properly.

But...Convert the track to a wav (via Lame), and I can't tell the difference between playing that via Multiplay or VLC. It sounds fine.

I generally compile most fx uncompressed anyway so it's not too much of an issue but the playlist feature for interval music etc is very handy - especially if it can be got to work with mp3 files.

So thanks David for a fab piece of software - and hopefully this is of help in future releases.

There is a known issue with Multiplay and playing MP3 on Windows 7. I emailed David (the software author) and all he could suggest was converting to wav, as you already have.

Thanks Johnny - It seems the problem is the same on Vista too - I've tried it on my desktop machine with two different sound cards. Wavs are fine but not mp3 files.

I guess the problem is with the decompression, not the audio drivers for the soundcard.

Also, previewing cues using headphones and the built-in soundcard (on Vista), it sounds very much like mp3 files are playing in muffled mono whereas wavs play in lovely stereo.

One for the expert I feel - when you get a spare few days David!

IIRC when I was trying to fix this I tried several different drivers (ASIO) so I believe you're correct.

I also seem to recall David didn't have a W7 machine so was unable to test effectively, whether this has changed or not now I am unsure.

It is rather annoying as I have some funny issues with multiplay and WAV files. it appears to lose track of its position within the file and then find it again (elapsed / emain disappear). The file still plays fine, but any control cues affecting the file have no effect while the bug is happening.

Has anybody else experienced this?
