  1. No we are in Sutton Coldfield - West Midlands but I see where you are coming from!
  2. I renewed the licence today having spoken to a knowledgeable chap at OFCOM. Nothing has changed with the frequencies. But... The renewal notice lists channel 606.5 to 613.5Mhz only. The payment page lists the above plus 823 to 832Mhz. The licence itself lists the above plus 1.7-1.8Ghz. So all three groups are there and listed on the licence - just don't believe anything but the licence itself! (It may be of interest that IMG Stageline are selling mid range personal kits in the 1.7-1.8Ghz band for about £450. Not sure how many will fit in the band). Many Thanks
  3. Our theatre's OFCOM radio mic renewal has arrived and only lists channel 38 frequencies whereas the current licence has 823-832Mhz plus 1.7-1.8Ghz. Has something changed?
  4. Thank you for the advice. It seems I misunderstood the maximum number of slots in channel 38 which looking at the frequency chart is 13 if we use bank 7, 9,11 or 12 rather than the bank 1 we are using at the moment for which the maximum is 12.I must admit I had forgotten about channel 65 and the 2014 published Sennheiser chart predates it - the changes having been made in 2015.We can access some older G3 units that will tune down to 830Mhz. Sennheiser list three slots in the gap between 830Mhz and 832Mhz. If I can get that to work I have achieved my 15 plus a spare and my Director is happy. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.David Ashton
  5. Our theatre has a channel 38 radio mic licence and 8 Sennheiser G3 radio mic channels all on the inbuilt first block of frequencies. We have successfully hired in an additional 4 Sennheiser G4 channels and set them to the remaining channels in that block. For the next production "Company" I am being asked for 15 channels of radio mics and my instinct is to go for 16 so that we have a spare channel. That would be 8 G3's and 8 G4's. I have seen a reference somewhere that it is possible to use up to 16 channels within channel 38 but I cannot find a suggested frequency map. Can anyone help me with this please? Many Thanks David Ashton
  6. The positive desk supply from the Eltec packs from what I recall was about 21v. Control voltage 0 to 10v. Eltec was good solid kit aimed mostly at schools. I still have some analogue racks and as far as I know they work. Does anyone know what happened to Phil Snowden? I recall visiting their base at Llanfyllin in Wales and later a farmhouse in Shropshire (I think). Prior to Eltec Phil worked for Contel Thespak in Stroud who produced early thyristor dimmers and desks with a 1.2v control voltage. Pre DMX/d54 Eltec made a memory console called the "Sceptre". This was designed by Peter Wiggins from Derby. It was advanced for it's time and used a bbc model B computer to do the work. Anyone remember that?
  7. I have been asked to check out a couple of redundant Zero88 DMUX 48's with the hope that one of them can go to a local village hall drama group. They were made in 1999 and had little use before sitting in a cupboard for a number of years. So I changed the battery and cleaned the pcb in the first and powered it up. It didn't do the usual display test sequence but went straight to displaying "012". All the outputs were at 100%. Applying DMX put the "received" led on but no control. So moving on to the other one I changed the battery and applied power. Eureka! This one did the display test sequence ending up on 001. Applying DMX put the "received" light on and the unit worked. Well for a while...... Then the display flickered. All the outputs came on at 100% and the display showed - yes you guessed it "012"! This made me think it could be a common fault and others may have had the same thing happen. Anyone else seen this? Any ideas? Many Thanks in anticipation. David Ashton.
  8. Many thanks for all your replies. I have bought one of the reccomended Philips lamps and in parallel with the existing tungsten load it dims fairly smoothly on the fairly modern Strand single channel DMX dimmer. I would guess it snaps in at about 5% which is way below anything else I have tried. The Artistic License "Sundial" dimmer sounds very interesting and in time I may get a demo. I haven't researched the ETC Arcsystem yet but it looks as if it would suit us - particularly if existing wiring can be used and hopefully the bayonet lampholders. Thanks again David Ashton.
  9. Good to hear from you Simon. It's been a while! These Artistic License units look as if they might be suitable (or "least worse") in our situation in combination with the Philips lamps reccomended above. It's what happens at the bottom end that is important for us. I am looking to replicate that lovely gentle fade up from black that you get with tungsten if at all possible. Had anyone tried these dimmers in anger? Many Thanks
  10. I have been asked to investigate changing the bayonet cap tungsten candle lamps in our two house light chandeliers for led equivalents. The chandeliers are currently fed from a single channel DMX dimmer under control of the lighting desk. I have seen "dimmable" mains led candle lamps but am guessing I will need a different DMX dimmer. Any advice and reccomendations would be gratefully received. Many Thanks David Ashton. 11. I have an SN103. I recall (I think) that if you open it up you can plug in a ps2 qwerty keyboard and monitor like you can on a sn100/102 etc. I think it's control x to exit the node software and get to a dos prompt. You can then type "edit 220node.cfg" and edit in the usual way. You may need to install a dos editor. Does this ring any bells with anyone? It's been a while since I did this but I recall Shownet was very advanced for its time it was easy to combine DMX streams etc using a node. For example you can set up a pair of standalone sn103's to send 4 DMX universes over 1 cat5. Shownet works well with Chamsys. All good fun!
