Zero 88 Solution and generic par cans

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I've recently taken on the lighting at the school I work at. We have a Zero 88 Solution desk, I've got control of all the LED lights and movers but for some reason when I plug the standard Par cans and Quartets in to the dimmer packs they turn on but I have no control over them. Is there something really simple I'm missing?

Please advise!

Well you are assuming a configuration problem with the desk, but possibly the dimmers are broken and/or set up wrong...

What make/model are the dimmers?

If you power up the dimmers with the DMX from the desk unplugged, does this make any difference?

Is there a demux between the desk and the dimmers? Sounds like the DMX might not be reaching it, or the DMX addressing is incorrect and the "last state" is being held on the dimmers.

When you look at the dimmers, is there an extra box there too? There might be one wire with a 5-pin plug going into this box (from the lighting desk) and then a number of wires coming from the "extra box", one going to each dimmer, and those wires have plugs on them with 8 pins.

Look into Tim's Q's too, we should be able to figure this out quite quickly!

Regards,

Kevin

That "extra box" might look like one of these or similar:

Hi Dan.

The previous replies all outline feasible reasons for the problem, so by now you might be "up and running".

However, if you add a location to your profile and since you work at a school, you might find there are members of the Schools Theatre Support Group (stsg.org.uk) nearby who could pop in and offer some advice.

In fact, joining them could be a useful thing for you to do, as they run a hidden forum within the Blue Room as well as offer advice for situations like this.

Enjoy your new job.

Alan
