IIR those knee segways were made 1st by the crew on the Russian eurovision*. There are some amazing shots on youtube of a 150m? run that ends with jumping off it and running round the stage.

So going back to the wire-operated overhead camera, was that a broken wire or operator error? I would have expected some safety features in the control system to prevent the camera operator crashing it into the ground, but I've never actually seen how they are controlled - you don't see them much in the UK but the americans seem to have them everywhere.

edit: found the skycam website http://www.skycam.tv where it says that yes, the control system has got all possible obstacles mapped, so presumably it was a broken wire or other malfunction...

I have heard of these coming down in high winds, but surely it could remain up in the air from one wire breaking?

AFAIK, they are not cables, rather a Carbon Kevlar or similar material braid with a glass fiber running down the middle for data...

It would depend where it was, if the shortest cable was to break then it would have to hit the deck. I suppose it could be a reel/winch malfunction either.
