DMX controlled DMX recorder

Is there such a thing as a DMX recorder which would allow me to record different lighting states, and then allow me to recall those states via DMX? The reason I'm asking is because we're looking into (finally!) moving from conventional tungsten lamps to LEDs, at least for general stage washes, but we've run into a minor snag.

We have a lot of shows that ask us to supply colour washes and specials to complement their own lighting rig, which typically consists of a few bars of moving lights. They will bring their own lighting desk programmed for their show, and they will patch our washes and specials onto their desk and control everything themselves. If we were to switch to LEDs for the washes then a few shows have said that they would have problems with that due to them having to reprogram their show to make use of the LEDs.

If we were to switch to LED washes what we would like to be able to do is use our desk to create the different colour washes and use a separate unit to record those states. Incoming shows would then control each of those states via a single DMX channel per state. For example we could create a series of washes with several uniquely addressed LED units, but all the incoming show would effectively see is a red wash on channel 1, a blue wash on channel 2, and so on.

Is there anything out there that would allow that kind of control, without breaking the bank? We've currently got an ETC Element which unfortunately does not have a DMX input.

Thanks

One way to do it is to use Light factory DMX input to trigger sub masters, you can have each DMX "control channel" bringing up different colours etc. You will need a DMX in and DMX out for Light Factory. DMX out will go to your led's.No doubt other lighting programs can do this.

I feel like you, that there must be a hardware solution also, like some Entec thing?

https://www.enttec.c...ing-controller/

But I can't see it. For a cheap soltuion I would be tempted into a rappsberry pi/open lighting/usb adapter solution?.

(ie http://dmxking.com/u.../ultradmxrdmpro + https://www.openlighting.org/) Once set up, its ort of harware-ish

Depends on your requirements/skillset though. I'd be happy to work on it if you like?

Found the hardware version:

Not so cheap though

And how do these shows cope at other venues with an led rig? There already patching there show to your dimmer channels so why cant they just patch the leds the same way,if you want to be realy nice you could give them a list of addresses and DMX values to obtain the colours they want
