aRFR Android app

Hey Guys,

I used to have an I phone and used the iRFR app for years. I would obviously be connected to the ion router when in range automatically and if I needed to use the internet on my phone it would default to 4g data usage so I could still use it whilst connected to the ion router. I never had to disconnect from the ion etc etc. (hope that makes sense)

I now have an Android phone and the aRFR app and that doesn't seem to happen. When Im connected to the ion router, the phone seems to automatically turn off the 4g data so I then cant access the internet on my phone or receive any notifications etc.

Has anybody experienced this and is there a way round it? Or are I phones just cleverer and noticing that the wifi you are connected to doesn't have internet access and therefore leaves 4g on?

Thanks in advance for any responses

Smart network switch should do the job (but turn it off when you leave for the day)

Wifi settings > advanced.

That or Download booster, which essentially bridges your wifi and mobile data.

Again, turn off when not required.

The other thing to watch for it to make sure you are using the "Private Network" IP ranges for your lighting network(s).

That means something in one of the following ranges:

  • 10.x.x.x (subnet /8 or smaller)
  • 192.168.x.x (subnet /16 or smaller)
  • 172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x (subnet /12 or smaller)

Ion defaults to the range 10.101.x.x, subnet /16 (mask 255.255.0.0)

Most d0mestic WiFi routers default to a 192.168.N.x, subnet /24 (mask 255.255.255.0)

Either of those should be absolutely fine.

Do not use the "Art-Net Primary" IP range of 2.x.x.x for your lighting network.

This is an Internet IP and using it makes it pretty much impossible for your phone to figure out which is "Internet" and which is not.
