Funny 3D issue

Evening all.

I've just had a funny issue with a projector sensing 3D when it shouldn't be there??

I've just installed a temporary projector in a venue wanting to show tonight's pay per view boxing. They have 2 sky boxes connected through a complex distribution system, (Kramer splitters, altona matrix with hdmi over cat cable outputs.) Not our install so not sure on models or it's full functionality.

We have basically disconnected one of the existing screens and extended the hdmi to our projector.

I've done the job a couple of times before and there has always been an issue with the projector on one of the sky boxes, the picture is in a kind of 3D flicker! but house screens are fine. Previously we've just used the 2nd sky box however on this occasion due to network issues it's not been possible to to get the pay per view on the 2nd box.

I've reset all setting on the projector, restart the sky box looked for 3D settings in the sky menu of which I can't see any, but nothing is fixing the issue. The projector has a 3D menu but you can't change the settings all it says is 3d on when on the first sky box and off when on the second sky box.

I've swapped the projector to a different brand and all I get is a message with signal not supported, to fix the issue and get out of the tight spot I've swapped it for a much larger professional projector where I was able to disable the 3D function and all was well.

What I would like to ask is anyone aware of what it might be? The sky boxes are sky plus hd boxes and as far as I'm aware don't support 3d, if I change the matrix from one sky box to another the 3d comes and goes.

Any thoughts or any ideas of a method to block the 3d on the signal so next time I do the job I won't have the same issues?

Thanks

More likely a deinterlacing issue - use the Info button on the Displays and Projector to 'see' what they think they are receiving and also check if SKY is set to 1080i or 720p.

It could be that that something in the system is talking the 1080i(50) from the SKY+ HD box and converting it to a Progressive signal and the Projector is 'seeing' it as Interlaced and trying to apply it's own deinterlacing.

Interesting thought. The sky box in question is set to 1080p. I did try it on 720p but nothing, I recall the projector sensing the correct resolution but that might have been on the working sky box.

It doesn't look as though the image is in real 3d so the interlaced issue could be a good call, I was simply going on the fact that 2 of the projectors both NEC were detecting 3d on the box causing issues and when I disabled the 3d option on the projector that it could be disabled, it all worked. The hitachi projector which doesn't support 3d didn't display an image at all.

Both sky boxes are routed through the same matrix so a simple input swap over will show if it's something in the routing that is doing something.

I had just wondered if piping the signal through a da which doesn't support 3d would sort it or an edid emulator.

I'll have to have a play the next time the job comes in

I've seen few devices getting confused with Progressive signals - hopefully it is something as simple as setting the SKY box to 1080i.

An HD Fury 'Dr HDMI' or similar EDID Manager would be a next step to try out.
