HDMI Signal Booster

EWCC

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am part of the IT team in our church and we have run into a snag.

We built a new sound booth in the rear of our congregation to promote a better audio delivery to our congregation. We also moved our video system for our screen and monitors. Our issue began when we learned that our HDMI signal couldn't reach our switcher, which feeds our 4 way splitter that feeds our screens. We purchased a extender system that converts HDMI over 2 CAT5e cables (100ft) and back to HDMI. we are having problems still getting video signal to our screens. what will help us?

And HDMI to HDSDI will not support HDCP - so if you ever want to play copy right protected material it will not work over HDSDI.

That said 90% of the time that isn't an issue if you've got cameras and song words/pro presenter as your sources.

Agreed with above posts - look for an HDBaseT solution, and use the manufacturers suggested CATx cable.

There are a couple of ways you could approach this 'fix'.

HDBT - as others have mentioned this will use a single CAT cable and goes out to 70m (or 100m for the designs which also carry 10/100 Ethernet) - http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI_extender_HD70STPEX.html

HD over LAN - this would replace the HDMI extender and Distribution amp and would use CAT5 or CAT6 plus a managed (Matrix) or unmanaged Gigabit (Distribution) Switch - we have been supplying a lot of these systems to Houses of Worship - http://octavainc.com/HDDSX_Matrix.html

The team at our Atlanta office can take you through the Pro's and Cons of both systems.

PS I would avoid long HDMI cables as going forward they will always be a potential fail point in the system.

HD over LAN does introduce latency and it can vary with cable length - it can be more obvious with audio than it is with video if you are using TV 'speakers'.

As you say it's always part of the discussion when considering which technology best fits each requirement.
