  1. The reason I am "over amped' is so that should I have an entire amp fail, I can still run the system at full power should I need to.
  2. Hi all. I've been using a couple of EV Q1212 amps the last few years and they've been very good but they are HEAVY. I've just seen a few QSC PL236 amps come up for sale and am considering buying them as they are similar power but much much lighter. I reckon I could probably sell the Q1212's for what I'd buy the 236's for (£450) I need light but need ~ 3500W bridged. Any comments?
  3. I'm not a fan of using cabs with guitar speakers in them with a Kemper as you are so restricted by how that speaker sounds. You can fiddle with IRs to try and change it but the sound is nowhere near as authentic as with a Kone (or a K12H-200TC) plus Kemper's "Imprints". Maybe a 4x12 with Kones in it might be the business?
  4. Guitar combos are often open backed but everything I've used, 1x12, 2x12, 4x12 has always been closed back. The 1x12 box that I'm currently using is also closed back but ported which makes it sound a bit bigger, more like a 2x12 - (which I have also got actually with 2xK12H-200TCs in). The Kone and the K12H-200TC use wizzer cones to give an extended HF response compared to a guitar speaker, but not nearly flat 20-20,000Hz etc.
  5. I could indeed do that but the Kone gives a more "live" "amp in the room" sound. @Andrew C Thank you
  6. The Kemper profiling amplifier (KPA) uses a speaker modelling algorithm which only works with a particular type of loudspeaker - either a Kemper "Kone" or not quite so accurately with a Celestion K12H-200TC (which is what I use). This enables me to save the speaker type as well as guitar amp type to each sound "profile, giving me total control over my sound. I usually use a 1x12 behind me but I want to try using the speaker in a monitor wedge at the front of the stage.
  7. I'm just looking for a second hand empty wedge box that I can put a 12" speaker in. I play guitar and use a Kemper profiler, I want my speaker in front of me on the stage.
  8. @sunray What did you search for? I couldn't find anything 1x12" @Simon Lewis Thanks for that.
  9. Hi all. Any idea where I can buy an empty (unloaded) 12 inch monitor wedge? New or second hand will do and speaker doesn't have to be working as I'm going to put my own in. TIA
  10. Well not necessarily - I've hired D&B C4 (4 tops + 2 subs) for £150 on several occasions so it is possible and that will happily do 500 people My own rig is 10k of RCF / EV with 2 subs / 2 tops, 5 monitors, really good mics and an X32 with d/snake and Midas DL16s and I struggle to get £200 for that lot and that's including me mixing. I just didn't want to hire a van and lug it 200 miles, but I'll have to take it and DIY. I personally think people have inflated ideas about how much they can charge for kit and personnel. OK, corporate shows can afford it but smaller band/club gigs just can't. Way back 25-30 years ago, I'd get decent money but it just isn't there now imo. I've been doing this (small scale not as a big business) for 40 years. I know I could hire what I need locally for under £200. Gig is tomorrow so wish me luck.
  11. Hi. Thanks to JT Stage Productions and Eurohire for their responses and quotes. Both would have been OK money wise, but the kibosh was put on one because its a Saturday and the other because the travelling racked up the cost. Both were good suggestions kit wise with QSC K/KW and Dynacord Cobra both would have been OK for our gig. I have about £150 to spend Any other suggestions folks?
  12. Hi all Any recommendations for someone to supply some foh for a rock gig at Academy Snooker Club Basingstoke November 2nd? The club is 500 capacity, so doesn't need to be a huge rig and I don't want to blow the doors out. There is PA in there but unless they've replaced it since we last played there it was pretty atrocious to be fair. Dry hire would be good but someone with a reasonable PA that doesn't charge too much also would work for us. Thanks Jon
  13. Hi Jon, Andy Lee and I are going to visit The Boom Boom club Friday, 19th, April, as guests of Pete Feenstra. Pete sent me a video clip of a sound check at the venue, to give me a preview of the place. Looks like I will be able to get my 4k sound rig in, but only 2x T-bars of 4x large par64 led stage lighting. I will update you after visiting and seeing Fleetwood Bac. Regards John Bell
  14. Hi John

Just wondering how you are now you're officially retired? You mentioned going along to the Boom Boom for me to check out the lights. Have you had a chance? Band is still booked there for the 25th May as planned. Hope all is well. Regards Jon
