  1. I have started to pick up some work live streaming funerals for churches. Due to the nature of most church buildings and the rural areas I'm getting work I have started using Spedify. Not tried it fully yet but I was running a stream the other day using an ethernet 4G modem running on EE and a USB 4G modem running on O2. At the end of the service I was packing up and disconnected the main modem that it was using and it switched to the secondary modem without a glitch.
  2. Because that's what they get told it will do. I was at a church that was looking to upgrade it's sound and video equipment. The current system was a 16 channel analogue desk, with no one operating it, and a pc controlling the projection of song words on a screen. The inputs were 4 radio mics, though normally only one was used, and a music group consisting of an electric piano and drum kit and 4 microphones for vocalists. The congregation usually numbered 50-60 with an average age of about 60. Despite a number of appeals no one wanted to run the sound system and only two were willing to run the screen. They had had an company recommended to them by the Diocese, who at the insistence of the Organist / Music Director, were recommending a wireless digital mixer and also a wireless projection system. They were told that the digital desk could have compressors on all the inputs so no one would have to control the volume sliders, and that the installation company would provide a two hour training session that would make them experts in running the system. In the end, and grudgingly, the organist and church council were told that they should talk to me, having been involved with sound systems in churches for many years, also personally running a digital desk for 18 years. During the discussion I pointed out that this system was well beyond what they needed and that the training was not going to make them experts as they struggled to operate / fault find on their existing system. I was told that the suppliers must know what they were talking about as they were experts and had been recommended to them. People did not seem able to grasp that they were sales men and that they had to make money. The best response I had was that it must be the best as it was digital, this came from a lady who had her husband print out emails so she could read them. These are the people that are making the decisions.
  3. I keep being told, by my DJ friend, that I need to look at the Rekordbox lighting function. I believe that it pre analyses the tracks, and attaches lighting effects / pattens to musical phrases in the track.
  4. Link would be great. I keep getting told I'm doing it wrong, but no one can tell me why. I have always looped longer cable ( 2m+ ) round my arm. Never done it tight and in the 37 years I've been doing it I've not had a cable go down through use, normaly only through external damage.
  5. Thanks for all the replies guys. I did try phoning him today but it went straight to voice mail so I left a message. I will try again tomorow and see what happens. If I don't get any response by the end of the week I think I will send another Email and signed for copy along with a note that if nothing happens I will have to take it further. We are talking a private individual putting on an event sponsored by the company he works for, raising money for a local charity. I am wondering whether to also send a letter to the company's director and the charity just to let them know what is going on in their names.
  6. That is a good question that I don't really have a good answer to.
  7. I did wonder if that was the case. Thanks for the advice.
  8. Hi Guys, I just want to get peoples opinions on a situation that I have not been in before. Until recently I have always done jobs for people I know or have built a bit of a relationship with, so non payment has never been an issue. About 2.5 months ago I was contacted by a friend on Facebook asking if I could do a charity event that his boss was putting on and if so how much would it be. I costed the job up and sent it to my friend stating that I would apply a 50% discount as it was for a charity. My friend said that the price I gave was what they had been quoted by a different guy who had to pull out at the last minute, and he would pass the price and my number on to his boss. Next day his boss calls me and we agree that I will do the job at the price I quoted. So after so text messages and emails confirming get in times and PLI / Electrical documents, the show goes ahead with no issues. A few days latter I sent an invoice to the email that the documents were sent to. After a month, having not heard anything, I sent a second email with the invoice and received an auto response saying he was away for a few days. Two weeks later I was chatting to my Facebook friend and asked if he could have a quiet discreet word. He was told that his boss was waiting for an invoice from me. I decided to send the invoice again and also text the bosses number saying that I had sent it. Now after 2 months and not having heard anything I am thinking of resending the invoice by email and signed for mail and send a text again saying that this is what I have done. I am also thinking of stating that if the invoice is not paid in the next 30 days I will remove the 50% discount. I'm wondering is all this a reasonable response, or am I making a big mistake. Now I am thinking that I ave probably already made the big mistake by not confirming our telephone conversation by email and also not giving a payment period or stating that the discount would be removed, but as stated at the beginning I've not had this problem before, but I will learn from it http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif
  9. I've been thinking about this sort of thing for a while and am leaning towards a Raspberry Pi and camera mounter to a mover with motion tracking capabilities.
  10. What would worry me about the GHz ranges is the complete line of sight that they have. I recently went back to rc car racing and got a nice new 2.4Ghz control and was shocked at how easy it was for the car to loose the connection.
  11. Hi mate,

Just noticed your post. I could let you borrow my radio mics for Saturday if that is useful.

    I live over in Gateshead.

    Let me know.
