alex_h
I am doing a project for uni and wanted to know how people keep unto date with new technology and software, things such as events, magazines, online place ect. thank
peza2010
this forum doesn't take particularly well to users signing up just to get answers to their uni project questions. for the best chance of decent answers you should really expand on the question and tell us what you have already researched as a bare minimum. Dj Dunc
Also don't forget many of your Tutors and Alumni will be floating around here, and your existing / past / future employers.
alex_h
I am doing a project for uni and wanted to know how people keep unto date with new technology and software, things such as events, magazines, online place ect. thanksorry if this seems like I am using the forum to get answers for uni, its not the case I have just not signed up before. I have researched into using magazines such as lsi and going to events such as plasa and pro light and sound. I have also spoken to a few different industry professionals about what they do, I came to the forum because I wanted to try and find out how a large range of levels keep up to date with new technology and not just the people who work in the west end or at the top of their profession. thanks
david.elsbury
You'll always get better responses if you post your own opinions and theories first, and ask others to comment on them, that way it doesn't appear that you are asking others to do your work for you :) HTHDavid
kitlane
Moreover, there is a forum specifically for this type of question. Education Zone --> Research Help Wanted
paulears
I've moved this to the appropriate forum - but I must admit I'm a bit mystified by it's purpose? I don't quite see how you will benefit from this?
Jivemaster
A lot of real world work is not about getting the best/newest technology it's about doing the job in hand with the existing setup. I'd suggest that it's a rare ents venue that doesn't have some 30 year old technology still in daily use. Lots of folk will go to trade shows and read industry magazines to be aware of cutting edge technology, but still venues are lit with the same PARs PCs and fresnels that were installed years ago. I guess that most people only look to replace kit when it becomes unreliable, then they look for a replacement.
Ynot
I guess that most people only look to replace kit when it becomes unreliable, then they look for a replacement. My guess is that the proponents of using 'all-new' kit are more likely to be the bigger touring shows, especially in the 'pop' world where the budgets are significantly higher. That said, I'd also not be surprised to see some old faithfuls appearing alongside all that flashy newer gear.
