Ynot
Now then. I have the option of buying up a load of props for OWALW (which I'm designing and lighting in September) but the initial outlay for them all is over and above any finite budget we have for the show - however it's tempting because it would save a heck of a lot of searching for items that are on the list. To maybe offset some of that outlay, IF I decide to go for it, it would be interesting to know who else is planning to produce this show in the next couple of years or so. Clearly due to the centenary years, anything WW1 is likely to be popular just now, (we're doing one each year 2014-2018) so the odds are perhaps high. So if we buy in the props set it seems feasible that offering it all as a hire package to other groups/societies out there could be viable. So - who's on the list...? French's only show 3 venues (includng ours) this year, but that doesn't necessarily include anyone thinking of doing it soon....
alistermorton
It's a possibility - we did Journey's End this season and next season we're doing Accrington Pals - it's entirely possible we would continue the commemorative theme.
Jivemaster
Maybe this http://livinghistory.co.uk/forums/ would be a place to offload things that are realistically WW1 if necessary.
w/robe
It may be worth checking that some of what you would be buying (prop guns etc.) would not come for very little cost with your costume hire.

Barreller
We did OWALW last year and have Pierrot costumes available for hire. It might be worth considering options. We hired in hats at considerable cost and I have to say that I am not convinced that it was money well spent. The backstage area must have been chaotic and actors frequently appeared without the correct hat. You might almost need a props person for each actor!! I went to see another production after ours and that company only used a hat for the Kaiser. I'm not convinced they lost too much!!
